New Covid-19 variant 'IHU' discovered in France, is more infectious than Omicron

Scientists have linked the variant of IHU to travel with Cameroon. First, December 10 was detected, but WHO has not yet labeled it as a variant according to the investigation. At least 12 cases of the new variant have been reported near Marseille.

The world is still dealing with the highly mutated strain of Coronavirus, called Omicron, who has been leading a surge in the infection of Covid-19 around the world. And now, scientists in France have identified a new and more mutated tension than Omicron.

Named IHU, variant B.640.2 was discovered by academics at the IHU Mediterrnee Infection Institute. Researchers say it contains 46 mutations, even more than Omicron, which makes it more resistant to vaccines and infectious.

At least 12 cases of the new variant near Marseille have been reported, and has been linked to travel to the Cameroon of the African country.

However, then the OMICRON variant remains the dominant tension in most parts of the world. However, the threat of the IHU variant is increasing rapidly.

B.1,640.2 has not been seen in other countries or labeling in a variant according to the research of the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to a document published in Medrxiv, the genomes were obtained by sequencing of the next generation with Oxford NanoPore technologies in Gradry instruments.

“Fourteen amino acid substitutions, including N501Y and E484K, and 9 eliminations are in the Spike protein. This genotype pattern led to create a new pangolin lineage called B.1,640.2, which is a phylogenetic brother group for the ancient B.1.640 RENOMBED LINEAGE B.1.640.1 “, said the research document.

The Eric Eric Feigl-Ding epidemiologist published a long thread of Twitter in which he said that the new variants continue to emerge, but does not necessarily mean that they will be more dangerous. “What makes a variant better known and dangerous is your ability to multiply due to the number of mutations you have in relation to the original virus,” he said.

“This is when it becomes a” variant of concern “, as Omicron, which is more contagious and more last, the evasive immunity. It remains to be in which category this new variant will fall,” said the doctor.

The variant of Omicron was detected in a sample taken from South Africa on November 24 last year. Since then, it has been extended to more than 100 countries. In India, it has infected nearly 1,900 people.
