The deaf and foolish chess player based in Jalandhar, Malika Handa, who had won several medals at national and international events, said Monday that the government of Punjab has not fulfilled the promises made to her.
In a series of tweets, Handa said: “Condi Sports Minister Pargat Singh on December 31. said the state government can not give me a job and a reward in cash because they do not have a policy for deaf sports.”
“The former sports minister had announced a cash reward for me and I also have an invitation letter in which they invited me, but was canceled due to Covid,” she added.

Handa is the first Indian to win an international gold of deaf and mute chess championship, he has won multiple gold medals in the national championships. She has also been a vocal about her disappointment with the government of Punjab and has often sought help through Twitter.
In one of the September tweets, Handa wrote: “I hurt myself and I feel like crying. I met the director of the Ministry of Sports today and said that the government of Punjab can not give promotions and cash to the deaf athletes. What Should I do now? My future is ruined. “
The mother of her, Renu Hara, has also been a vocal over abuse. While talking to Asianet Newwasable, she said: “We make sure of a cash reward for multiple government officials, but now it has been five years, and we are still waiting for it.”
